The DIODE laser hair removal technology is based on the selective dynamics of light and heat. The laser goes through the skin surface to reach the root of the hair follicle. Light can be absorbed and converted into heat damaging the hair follicle tissue, so that the hair can be retarded without injury to the surrounding tissue.

Slight heat may be felt during treatment, although the Diode operates on a cooling system technology for Permanent Hair Removal.

People are more familiar with IPL. But, IPL is only for hair reduction and not a permanent solution such as the Diode. What are the main differences?

Step-by-step treatment procedure

Step 1

After an initial consultation and a patch test 24 hours prior to your treatment, your laser practitioner will prepare the area you have selected for the treatment. If you have any tattoos or moles these will be treated through lower settings (additional treatments may be required) and you will be given protective eyewear.

Step 2

Once the laser machine has been prepared, the treatment head is moved over the area of skin and activated. This procedure is entirely pain-free, and some clients say it feels similar to having an ice cube running on surface of the skin.

Step 3

With the DIODE, the skin may appear slightly red for 10-15 min or red immediately after the treatment, but no pain at all. You will begin to notice the results within 7 – 10 days, with the hair in patches after your first session. The clear patches indicate no growth and permanent removal.

The Science:

Laser treatment affects hair in the active growth phase (anagen stage). The laser beam is made up of precisely controlled pulses of energy which are absorbed by the melanin or pigment in the hair and reaches into the active hair follicles that lie beneath the skin. The energy heats the hair, right down to the bottom of the root, safely destroying it without damaging surrounding tissue or skin. Note that hair growth takes place over various cycles within a month. Most people will need a course of between 6 and 8 treatments after which time the hair will be removed and skin will be smooth and even.
